Since the Plumbing Code has been enforced new low flow toilets have been made. There are different types of low flow toilets. The first is the gravity tank toilet. It costs between $75 and $200. There is also the flushmeter toilet the price range of this toilet ranges around $150. The pressurized tank costs $100. These toilets are about the price of an older model, but by using a low flow toilet it cuts the water consumption used in homes by 25%. To help consumers choose a low consumption toilet the MWRA has a few tips.
Everyday Procedures You Can Do To Help
MWRA users waste great amounts of water. Here are some questions you can ask yourself inorder to find out if you are one of the people wasting the water. Answer them truthfully.
-Do you turn the water off while you are brushing your teeth?-Do you make sure your laundry loads are full?
-Do you water your lawn in the middle of the day when the sun is the strongest?
#1 Turn the tap off when you are brushing your teeth or shaving. .
#2 Never use your toilet as a waste basket. .
#3 Take shorter showers. .
#4 Run dishwashers and washing machines only when they are full.
#5 Most plants only require one inch of water a week. If it has rained during the week the plants do not need to be watered.
#6 In order to limit evaportation you should water you lawn early in the moring or late at night.
#7You should not water you lawn when it is windy.
#8 Fix leaky toilets.
#9 Make sure you have a shower head that only uses 2.5 gallons per minute or less.

#1 Put a few drops of food coloring in your toilet tank. Do not flush. If the color appears in the bowl within 10-15 minutes you have a leak. Call the plumber. Parts are easy and inexpensive to install.
#2 Hold a bucket underneath your shower head for 20 seconds. If more than one gallon accumulates, you need a water effecient shower head.
