Hey there,

Thank you for your question about the evolution of whales. A good place to
start is the following website:

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/whales

This includes a good general outline of whale evolution and some
illustrations of what the ancestors of modern whales looked like.

You might also want to check out the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural
History website, the mammals section.

http://www.lam.mus.ca.us/lacmnh/departments/research/mammals

This includes some excerpts from a book by the curator of mammals there,
John Heyning, called Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises: Masters of the Ocean
Realm, which has a good family tree for whales. The book itself is worth
having a look at too if you can get hold of it.

Hope this helps

Cheerio

Merel
