Balaenoptera musculus are the genus and species names for the Blue Whale.
The genus "Balaenoptera"comes partially from the latin word for "whale"
which is "balaena" and the Greek word for wing or fin- "pteron".
Musculus comes from the latin word for mouse or muscular- "mus".
Generally genus and species names are given, not on the basis of some
body structure comparison but as simple identifiers.
Good Luck!
