Clams and copper plating

I am doing a Copper Plating experiment. I put two clam type shells into the

copper plating solution and 2/3 of the shell turned a dark copper color and

the other part, near the hinge of the clam, turned green. Is this due to the

organic makup of the shell and can you give me more information on why this happened.
