Whales swim by moving their broad horizontal tails in an up and down
motion, much like a four-footed animal springs with the hind legs by using
muscles all along its back, whales use powerful muscles all along their
backs (dorsal muscles) and stomachs (ventral muscles) to push against the
water for propulsion.
