The other major threat to whales is habitat degradation, that is loss
and pollution of their home and especially their feeding areas. Ship
traffic is also a problem. Too many of the most endangered whales are
struck by large ships in areas where the whales feed and travel.
Seasons drive the migrations of the whales. In summer most large whales
feed in productive cool waters. They go to warm waters in winter to
give birth to calves and mate for the future.
