Habitats can be grossly different: ocean and terrestrial; or polar,
temperate, subtropical, equitorial/tropical.
They can be substantially different: valley, mountain, coastal.
They can be significantly different: riparian, sub-alpine, alpine,
tundra, etc; or in an ocean sense: beach, near coastal, shelf, slope,
deep canyon, pelagic.
They can be minutely different (micro-habitats).
To each habitat there are a multiplicity of life adapted to survive in
the special habitiats.
I hope this helps.
