        What percentage of the whale is wasted once it has been hunted?

    Dear Nina,

       The people of subsistence cultures utilize all that they can from a
    harvested whale. These people deeply respect and cherish the whales they
    hunt. Their cultural tradition values all of the whale and frowns on even
    minor wastage.

    Very large bones are seldom used these days, so among the Alaskan whalers
    the skull is returned to the sea with a prayer of thanks.
