Hi,

Many of us have read the book.  The IWC is very much in existance, and 
usually meets some time each summer.  The IWC was set up pretty much to keep 
the whaling industry from killing itself out of existance.  In more recent 
times, the meetings have become a forum for moratoriums and bans on whaling.  
Much is written and available about the history of the IWC and current 
activities. I would recommend research on the matter since you have an 
interest.
