yes, the blue whale is highly endangered.  The only population which is
doing well is that off California (recently estimated at 2000 animals
and growing).  All other populations seem to be small, the result of
massive overexploitation by whaling this century.  More than 350,000
blue whales were killed this century in the southern hemisphere alone.
