Hi:
As far as the ecosystem is concerned, if the blue whale became extinct life
would continue as usual, and something else would fill the gap that it
left.  In terms of us, we would have lost the largest animal that has ever
lived in the 4-billion year history of this planet.  And you'd have to
explain to your kids why you could no longer take them to see an animal
that made dinosaurs look small - i.e. because people killed every last one
for no more noble a motive than greed.	For me, that's a pretty huge loss,
and a disgrace to humanity.
