Dear Justin,

Scientists are still unsure how humpback whales make sound, but one idea is
they take in air and move it around between different spaces in their
heads. Only male humpback whales sing during the breeding season to
attract females. Songs last on average from 12-20 minutes and are repeated
sometimes for hours on end.
