QLD: Baby dugong dies at Sea World

GOLD COAST, Feb 13 AAP - An orphaned baby dugong rescued last
month off the north Queensland coast has died, a Sea World
spokesman said today.
He said the 1.23 metre dugong, which was rescued on January 12
after it was noticed swimming alone off Bundaberg, died at Sea
World on Saturday.
Since its rescue the male dugong had been nursed at the water
park but it never regained weight.
The spokesman said the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority
was interested in the results of an autopsy on the mammal after
reports of a number of dead dugongs off the Queensland coast.
