Whale meat, no thanks

CANBERRA, Oct 27 AAP - The Senate today gave a firm thumbs down
to the international trade in whale meat.
A motion proposed by Lyn Allison (AD, Vic) passed without
opposition to endorse the recent Convention on International Trade
in Endangered Species in Harare's rejection of any resumption in
whale meat trade.
She cited reports that meat from protected whales was still
being sold in shops in Japan.
Senator Allison's motion backed efforts by Environment Minister
Robert Hill to continue to support the ban on the whale meat trade
and to ensure adequate attention was paid to enforcement.
