Subject: Ocean City Whale Ent.

The Center for Coastal Studies received a report this afternoon of a whale
entanglement 17 miles SSE of Ocean City, Maryland. The entanglement was
originally reported by a whale watch vessel and relayed by the National Aquarium
in Baltimore (NAIB).

The description thus far is of a small whale with white belly, lumpy dorsal fin,
and pleats. There are 2-3 wraps of line around the body forward of the dorsal
fin. The animal is reported to be taking shallow dives and swimming
erratically.

NAIB has a dolphin survey up in a USCG helo which will divert to investigate the
report. David Schofield is calling other local stranding network contacts.
