December 22, 1998: A Volcano Erupts
A volcano is erupting on the southeast coast of the Icelandic mainland. The
volcano's name is Grimsvotn, and it's on Vatnajokul glacier, the largest
glacier in Europe. It started erupting on the morning of December 17th, and
it continues to erupt. A reporter on the scene of the eruption has said
that black ash is falling around the area, and that ash is predicted to
fall on the east side of Iceland.
