The Office of Naval Research and Scripps Institute of Oceanography
invite you to "ATOC Public Information and EIS Scoping Meetings."

      The office of Naval Research has announced its intent to
prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to continue operation
of the sound source installed by the Acoustic Thermometry of Ocean
Climate (ATOC) Project north of Kauai.  The meetings will include
presentations by the ATOC scientists on marine mammal and climate
research results, information on future plans and an opportunity for
public comment and discussion.

Presentations by: Dr. Adam Frankel, Chief scientist of the Hawaii
Marine Mammal Research Program, Dr. Joseph Mobley, University of
Hawaii, Dr. Walter Monk, Scripps Institute of Oceanography and Dr.
Peter Worcester, ATOC Principle Investigator and Research
Oceanographer.

On July 1, 1999  the same group of scientists, but including Dr. Jim
Mercer, Applied Physics Lab University of Washington will make a
presntation titled "ATOC Project in Hawaii: Past, Present and
Future"

      This presentation is "Co-sponsored by The University oif Hawaii
Sea Grant Program, University of Hawaii Water Resource Research
Center and Scripps Institute of Oceanography, University of
California San Diego"
