Canadian right whale surveillance flights (fwd)

Hello all,
For the next month or so East Coast Ecosystems, under contract with the
Department of Fisheries and Oceans with additional support by Mobil Oil
Canada, will be flying approx. 60 hours over various Canadian right
whale habitat areas. Priorities for areas to be surveyed will be
variable according to recent information and potential for collaboration
with other researchers.
On August 18 our first flight was flown over the Browns/Roseway area and
the results of the flight are as follows:

Visibility: clear
Sea State: 0 - 2 (mostly 1)

Basking Sharks: 3
Other sharks: 5
Unidentified dolphins: 28
Sunfish: 2
White-sided dolphins: 117
Minke whale: 1

Right Whales: 8
Location: 42 55.1N 65 33.1 W (SAG of 5 whales, 3 other singles were
coming in to join the SAG).

For Mike James: 2 leatherback turtles at 42 40.2N 65 21.7W
                                          42 56.0N 65 32.5W
