Subject: Blue Whales

With the 1993 data completed, the Mingan Island Cetacean Study has now
photo-identified 308 blue whales in the last 15 years in the Gulf of St.
Lawrence. Five blue whales have been sighted in the Gulf of Maine since
1980, four have photo-identifiable photographs, and two have been identified
as having been in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Over the last six years, the number of new blue whales has been about 8% of
the total population of blue whales photo-identified.
