RIGHT WHALE BREEDING GROUND DISCOVERED

Wellington, Aug 22 - The Department of Conservation has
discovered new breeding grounds of the highly endangered southern
right whale in New Zealand waters.
More than 96 whales were discovered recently in the sub-Antarctic
Auckland Islands by DOC biologists.
Conservation Minister Denis Marshall said the area could be the
biggest breeding ground in the world.
Right whales were hunted extensively last century and were so
named because they were seen as the ``right'' whales to kill.
