Hello there. I am writing a thesis on acoustic ecology and I am writing
about the effects of man made noise on the natural habitat. I have heard
that Whales can communicate over huge distances - it is suggested that a
humpback whale's song can travel around the world. He added that military
are interested in this in terms of long range communications.

Can anyone out there lead me to a concise text that confirms that whales
can communicate over such large distances and the military interest in this
fact?

very best regards,
