On the data sheets submitted by the Center for Oceanic Research and
Education, you will find the scientific abbreviations for different whale
species as follows:

Mn = Megaptera novaeangliae = humpback whale

Bp = Balaneoptera physalus = fin whale

Ba = Balaenoptera acuturostrata = minke whale

The abbreviations are the first letter of the genus and species of the
whales using the scientific classification system.

The following numbers on the data sheets are the locations of the whales
using the LORAN-C navigational system.  LORAN stands for "Long Range Aid to
Navigation" and is very similar to using Latitude Longitude lines.
