Whalers may be helping seals

SAN FRANCISCO, April 30 (UPI) -- British researchers say (Wednesday)
the whalers who have nearly wiped out baleen whales may be responsible
for the dramatic increase in seal visitors on Signy Island off the west
coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Reporting in the journal Nature, the
explosion in seal numbers in the area may be due in part to the
increased availability of shrimp called krill, a favorite treat once
reserved for the whales.
