Subject: seal data, "PoeGo","Jersey"

Mike et al,

Only one new location from each seal today, so I will be sending them with
tomorrows locations. In the meantime here is some dive data to ponder from
both hooded seals:

What it means....T.Dives is the total number of dives we have data for. N=
is the number of data messages we have received from the tag. Dive rate is
the average number of dives per six hour sampling period. Depth is the
percentage of dives within each range. The tag measures the maximum depth
for each dive in meters. Duration is the length of dive in minutes. Time
at depth is the amount of time spent at each depth (if a seal is not going
straight down and up it may be spending a different amount of time at
several depths in one dive). So....for "PoeGo" during the time from
7/15-7/30...41.8% of his dives were between 4-20 meters deep etc.

"PoeGo" has been diving as deep as 300 meters and has had some dives over
45 minutes long. "Jersey" has made dives to around 200 meters and has also
had some dives longer than 45 minutes.

What is interesting is that although Jersey was not doing much deep diving
initially the average results for both seals are close. So far "Jersey's"
dives have been shallower and not as long as "PoeGo", but these are just
the first sets of data. Keep in mind that we lost tracking of "Poego" for
7 days so his sample represents a bit longer time period than "Jersey".
Hopefully now that she is in deeper water we will see an increase in dive
depth and duration.
