Subject: locations for "Casino"
Mike, et al.,
Latest locations for "Casino". He continues to stay close to shore in the
same general area about fifteen miles up the coast from Halifax. Data from
the tag have shown some haulout times as long as six hours. Most of the
locations from the past several days seem to be within roughly five miles
or so of the area he appears to be hauling out in. It also appears that he
has returned to the same spot to haul out several days in a row. This has
changed his dive behavior quite a bit. Most of his dives are now
relatively shallow (ten meters or so), but dive durations have varied from
less than a minute to over fifteen minutes long. Power readings from the
tag continue to be good (helped to some extent because of the warmer
inshore water and more time out of the water) although there is a greater
chance the tag may get whacked and damaged while he is out of the water, it
appears that we may have power for several more weeks. This would be nice
to see if this "onshore" behavior pattern keeps up.
