Location data from "Casino":
Most peculiar. Looks like he has moved offshore and is heading south along
the coast. As of today he is south of Halifax. Dive data shows that he is
indeed offshore over quite deep water and he is occasionally diving to the
bottom (over 140 meters).

"PoeGo"
No locations, but some interesting data messages (2). The messages
indicate that his maximum dive depth yesterday was a little over 600 feet
and he has been spending roughly 60 minutes out of two six hour periods at
the surface. This is very little surface time (especially compared to
harbor and gray seals, both of which rarely spend less than twice that
amount of time at the surface) and is similar to the surface times we have
seen for other hooded seals. Also he has sent roughly 500 messages from
the tag in his first week. This is also a small number compared with other
seals ("Casino"- [dive data slot machine that he is] has been sending
roughly 250 signals per DAY. This probably is due to the fact that he
("PoeGo") spends so much time below the surface. This is also similar to
what we have seen from other hooded seals. The good news is that if the
signal rate is slow the batteries will last longer (hopefully). Checking
with the other hooded seals we have released (Stephanie and Kiwi) in their
first week post release we received 17 and 22 data messages respectively.
So far we have received 20 data messages from "PoeGo". It looks like this
means we are right about where we have been with other hooded seals and
with luck we should have a long tracking period (providing the tag and the
glue hold up). Keep your fingers crossed.
