Mike et al,
Sorry for the long break, but there have been some strange doings in my
absence.

As of the 31st we had 299 locations during a track of 74 days. Status
messages from the tag showed lower power output than other tags that had
powered off. At this point I figured this was the last we would hear from
the tag. The locations showed "casino" working south down the coast of
Nova Scotia, hauling out every day or so. You might remember that he made
the trip up the coast offshore and passed this area without hauling out on
the way up. Note that we went four days with no signal from the tag. At
this point I thought the tag had shut down. So naturally, today we get
another location. This one is offshore, off of the south east end of Nova
Scotia. The dive data that came with the location show that he had spent
at least twelve hours, not diving (I'd assume hauled out). I'm not sure
what this means, but I will wait about a week before declaring this tag
offline. (Although I do not expect to get much more out of it).

When last we left our hooded seal, he was way up the Bay of Fundy. It
looks like he has turned around and gotten at least part of the way back
into the Bay. We have not had a location since the 30th so it is hard to
say where he is right now. We had not had any information from this tag in
four days (which is about when I start to worry if something is wrong).
Today we did receive data messages (although no location). The few dive
messages we have show him diving (and again spending a lot of time at
depth) however his dives are not very deep. This probably means that he is
not over any of the very deep areas of the Gulf of Maine. We have also had
no indication that he has hauled out (which is probably a good sign). We
will see what happens (keep your fingers crossed).
