This is an introductory session specifically for those with little
experience using the internet and telecommunications. The workshop
includes:
        - an introduction to telecommunications technology using Netscape;
        - orientation to WhaleNet web site;
        - an introduction to whales of New England waters
        - hands-on classroom activities;
        - use of WhaleNet in the curriculum.

Saturday March 22 (5 pdp's)
WhaleNet: Advanced Telecommunication, Education & Curriculum
This workshop is geared to participants with some experience using the
internet and telecommunications. Participants will work in teams to
develop curriculum applications appropriate to their subject or grade
level. Products will be posted on the WhaleNet Curriculum Listserv. The
overall goal is to build the regional network of WhaleNet users and
activities. The workshop includes:
        - review of telecommunications technology;
        - exploration of WhaleNet and related links;
        - development of WhaleNet curriculum applications in the subject areas
at various grade levels.

WhaleNet is a student-centered program using computer technology as a
means for learning about whales and their habitats. It stresses the
potential telecommunications has to facilitate and coordinate classroom
learning and provides a source of engaging "hands-on" materials that
students find meaningful and exciting. The main goals of WhaleNet are to
enhance interest in science, develop problem-solving and other critical
thinking skills, increase environmental awareness and develop
familiarity with communications technology.

WhaleNet workshops are free of charge but space is limited so please
register only if you are certain that you will attend. Register by
e-mail or land mail. For information contact: Brian Forist, WhaleNet
