MARC 07-002 Cc, a female yearling hooded seal, stranded in York, Maine,
on January 11, 2007. Upon admit to MARC, she was found to have a broken
mandibular symphysis (cartilaginous connection between the lower jaw
bones). The jaw healed nicely and she was treated for both internal and
external parasites. #2's bloodwork showed that she was positive for a
bacterial infection that affects the kidneys, which if left untreated
can lead to fatality. She gained 63 lbs during her 2.5 month stay at
the Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center and was released back into the
wild with a satellite tag on March 21, 2007 at Granite Point in
Biddeford, Maine. |

MARC 07-003 Cc, a male yearling hooded seal, originally stranded in Old
Orchard Beach, Maine, on January 20, 2007. He was underweight and
dehydrated, with a case of lice, and ulcerations on the roof of his
mouth. #3's bloodwork showed that he was positive a bacterial infection
that affects the kidneys, which if left untreated can lead to fatality.
He gained 60 lbs. during his 2 month stay at the Marine Animal
Rehabilitation Center and was released back into the wild with a
satellite tag on March 21, 2007 at Granite Point in Biddeford, Maine. |
