Released: July 10, 2007, into Atlantic Ocean about 7 miles south of Shinnecock Inlet, Long Island, NY (40.73925400, -72.43487549)Orville was found on the beach early in the morning on March 1st, 2007, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. First response was given by NOAA Fisheries - Beaufort Lab and later that morning Orville was transported to the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, whose staff responded to the stranding. The following morning on March 2nd, after consultation with the National Marine Fisheries Service, Orville was transported to the Riverhead Foundation's marine mammal hospital facility on Long Island, NY, for long-term rehabilitation. The initial physical examination revealed thin body condition as well as a fractured vertebra and two broken ribs. Orville's rehabilitation lasted 4 months and on July 10, 2007, Orville was released into Atlantic Ocean.
