Seal Notes:

"Jersey Girl"- a female harbor seal, came ashore at Long Beach Island, New Jersey on November 18, 2002. The field number given to her is #02-133 (she was the 133rd animal to strand in 2002).

This thin "yearling" (born in summer of 2002) was coughing up blood, had ulceration's around her mouth, and parasites. Her weight at stranding was 36.4 lbs. Within two days in rehabilitation at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, she started eating without being force-fed. Once she was cleared of parasites and infection, she began to pack on the pounds.

She remained in rehabilitation until January 10, 2003. She was released into Great Bay, behind Long Beach Island along with two other yearling harbor seals that had been in rehab for the same amount of time. Her outgoing weight was 87.2 lbs.
