CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES.

Mariners are urged to maintain a sharp lookout and use caution around right whales. Intentional close approach is prohibited and may result in violation of federal or state law.

Reports:

8/26/00 - The NMFS plane reported sighting 40 right whales in the vicinity of the outbound traffic lane in the Bay of Fundy and east of Grand Manan Island.

8/23/00 - The NMFS plane reported 25 right whales in the Bay of Fundy just west of the Traffic Lanes and east of Grand Manan Island.

8/19/00 - The NMFS plane reported approximately 25 right whales in the Bay of Fundy just west of the Traffic Lanes and southeast of Grand Manan Island.

8/18/00 - The NMFS Aerial Survey reported sighting 40 right whales in the Bay of Fundy on the western edge of the Traffic Lanes and Southeast of Grand Manan Island. One of the right whales was reported as being entangled. NMFS Ship Delaware II and New England Aquarium were at the scene.

8/17/00 - The NMFS plane reported sighting 35 right whales in the Bay of Fundy west of the Traffic Lanes and east of Grand Manan Island.

8/15/00 - The NMFS R/V Delaware II reported sighting approximately 35 right whales west of the Bay of Fundy Traffic Lanes and east of Grand Manan Island.

8/14/00 - The NMFS R/V Delaware II reported sighting approximately 20 right whales west of the Bay of Fundy Traffic Lanes and east of Grand Manan Island.

The Coast Guard reported sighting 2 right whales in the Boston Traffic Lanes on Stellwagen Bank.

8/11/00 - The NMFS NES Aerial Survey reported sighting 35 right whales to the East of Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy.
