CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES.

Mariners are urged to maintain a sharp lookout and use caution around right whales. Intentional close approach is prohibited and may result in violation of federal or state law.

9/30/00 - A whale watch vessel reported sighting a single right whale on the southern part of Stellwagen Bank south of the Boston Traffic Lanes.

9/29/00 - A whale watch vessel reported sighting a single right whale on the southern part of Stellwagen Bank south of the Boston Traffic Lanes.

9/14/00 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor, ME reported sighting 1 right whale breaching in the area Southeast of Grand Manan Banks.

9/10/00 - A whale watch vessel reported sighting a single right whale (probable juvenile) on the northern part of Stellwagen Bank and just north of the Boston Traffic Lanes.

9/9/00 - A whale watch vessel reported sighting a single adult right whale northeast of the Isle of Shoals and west of Jeffreys Ledge.

9/6/00 - The Coast Guard reported the sighting of 2 right whales in the inbound (north) Boston Traffic Lane in the Southeast portion of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.
