CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES.

Mariners are urged to maintain a sharp lookout and use caution around right whales. Intentional close approach is prohibited and may result in violation of federal or state law.

10/4/01 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor reported sighting 2 right whales northwest of Yarmouth,Nova Scotia.

10/7/01 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor, ME reported sighting 17 right whales northwest of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

10/8/01 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor, ME reported sighting 8 right whales to the northwest of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

10/9/01 - Endangered Northern Right Whales are known to be present in the following locations: northwest of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, or in a 21 mile radius around the position 44-04N 067-01W.

10/10/01 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor, ME reported sighting 1 adult right whale northwest of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

10/11/01 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor, ME reported sighting 3 right whales, including a mother & calf pair, northwest of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

10/14/01 - A fishing vessel reported sighting 1 right whale north of Block Island, Rhode Island.

10/15/01 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor, ME reported sighting 4 right whales northwest of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

10/16/01 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor, ME reported sighting 7 right whales southeast of Mt. Desert Island and northwest of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

10/19/01 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor, ME reported sighting 4 right whales northwest of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

10/20/01 - The high speed ferry out of Bar Harbor, ME reported sighting 4 right whales southeast of Mt. Desert Island & northwest of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
