CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES.

Mariners are urged to maintain a sharp lookout and use caution around right whales. Intentional close approach is prohibited and may result in violation of federal or state law.

11/17/03 - 3 right whales sighted by shipboard survey in the vicinity of the Portland shipping lanes, 45 nm southeast of Portland, ME.

11/18/03 - 6 right whales sighted by shipboard survey in the vicinity of the Portland shipping lanes 46 nm South East of Portland, ME.

11/19/03 - 3 right whales sighted be shipboard survey in the vicinity of the Portland shipping lanes,50 nm South East of Portland, ME.

11/24/03 - 1 right whale sighted by a shipboard survey in the vicinity of the Portland shipping lanes, 40 nm southeast of Portland, ME, and 1 right whale sighted by a shipboard survey in the vicinity of the Portland shipping lanes, 43 nm south of Portland, ME.

11/26/03 - 20 right whales sighted opportunistically in the vicinty of the Bay of Fundy shipping lanes 35 nm southeast of St. Johns, NB, 1 right whales sighted by a shipboard survey in the vicinity of the Portland shipping Lanes 40 nm south of Portland, ME, and 2 right whales sighted opportunistically in the vicinity of the Boston shipping lanes 70 nm southeast of Boston MA.
