The Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) flew their first aerial survey of the 1998 season today (4 January) in Cape Cod Bay (CCB). Fourteen of the 15 CCB tracklines were completed. The survey was aborted prior to completion due to failing light. A total of 8 right whales were sighted.

CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES:
