NOAA/NMFS Right Whale Survey

REPORT:

The Center fo Coastal Studies (CCS) flew all of their Cape Cod Bay tracklines. In addition, a CCS research vessel surveyed in CCB and the Coast Guard conduscted surveillance in the Bay with MA Environmental Police. All Platforms had right whale sightings. There was a total of 19 right whales sighted. The national marine Fisheries Service surveyed over the southern portion of the Great South Channel (GSC) shipping channels with Coast Guard later in the day. There were no right whales sighted in the GSC area surveyed.

CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES:
