NOAA/NMFS Right Whale Survey

REPORT:

The Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) and MA completed 14 aerial track lines in cape Cod Bay today. Additionally, they flew one line about 1.5 miles off the backside of the Cape from Eastham to provincetown. The R/V shearwater was also out today. A total of 26 right whales were sighted between the 2 platforms; however, it should be noted that the 26 right whales sighted may include some duplicate sightings.

CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES:
