NOAA/NMFS Right Whale Survey
16 February, 1998 18:26 EST
The Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) and MA DMF completed 15 aerial tracklines in Cape Cod Bay today. Two additional surface platforms (the R/V Shearwater & Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) R/V Hannah T) surveyed the Bay for right whales. A total of 25 right whales were observed from aerial and ship surveys. An additional trackline approximately 1.5 miles off the beach was flown and surveyed from Chatham to provincetown yielding no right whale sightings. Sighting conditions were excellent.
