NOAA/NMFS Right Whale Survey

REPORT:

Two adult ight whales were observed by a tugboat in the Ambrose/Barnegat Traffic Lanes on Saturday, 28 february 1998. This sighting report was subsequently confirmed the same day by a whale watch vessel out of Highlands, NJ. Interestingly, the right whales were reported to be heading in a southerly direction and have not been resighted since 28 February.

CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES:
