NOAA/NMFS Right Whale Survey

REPORT:

The Center for Coastal Studies & MA DMF flew 15 tracklines in Cape Cod Bay and one line from Chatham to provincetown about 2 miles off the beach. The R/V Shearwater was conducting a habitat survey; the Int'l Wildlife Coalition (R/V Wavelength) was tagging. IWC tagged one right whale outside P-town Harbor. Coast guard in Provincetown reported earlier today a sighting of a mother/calf pair in provincetown Harbor area; the mother/calf pair was not re-sighted. 40 right whales were sighted, 8 may be re-sightings.

CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES:
