NOAA/NMFS Right Whale Survey

REPORT:

The Center for Coastal Studies flew tracklines 1-6 in Cape Cod Bay. The northern part of the survey was aborted when fog moved in from the north. The southern tracklines were attempted but conditions did not improve and the survey was aborted. Woods Hole Oceanographic Inst. (R/V Hannah) also condicted a research trip in CCB today. A total of (26) right whales were observed in CCB from the surveys. NMFS flew 4 tracklines in the southern part of GSC. No right whales were [observed].

CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES:
