NOAA/NMFS Right Whale Survey

REPORT:

The Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) and MA/DMF flew 15 tracklines in Cape Cod Bay today and another survey line about 2 miles off the beach from Chatham to Provincetown. A total of 7 right whales were sighted in CCB. NMFS flew 4 tracklines in the northern section of the Great South Channel. 6 right whales were sighted in GSC, including the 1st mother/calf pair of the season. The CCS R/V Shearwater ind International Wildlife Coalition F/V Wavelength also contributed RIWII sightings in the bay.

CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES:
