NOAA/NMFS Right Whale Survey

REPORT:

The Center for Coastal Studies and MA/DMF flew 15 tracklines in Cape Cod Bay and another line from Chatham to provincetown about 2 miles off the beach. 13 right whales were sighted. NMFS flew 8 tracklines in the northern portion of the great South Channel. One right whale was sighted. The R/V Shearwater was in the Bay doing radio tagging and contributed sightings. The International Wildlife Coalition was also tagging in the Bay and contributed sightings. Total for day: 17.

CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES:
