NOAA/NMFS Right Whale Survey

REPORT:

The center for Coastal Studies & MA DMF flew 12 tracklines in Cape Cod Bay before the flight was aborted due to weather. Three right whales were observed. The NMFS surveyed off Block island and the southeast portion of Long Island. Twenty three right whales were observed. Total for day: 26. An opportunistic right whale sighting was reported on 18 April 1998 off the Race Point area. One right whale was observed.

CONCENTRATIONS OF ENDANGERED NORTHERN RIGHT WHALES ARE KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN CAPE COD BAY. SIGHTINGS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE FOLLOWING COORDINATES:
